Home Loan FAQs

We're here to answer all of your questions.

  • To be eligible for a residential owner-occupier home loan or refinance, you'll typically need a good credit history, stable income, and the ability to meet repayments. Lenders generally require a deposit of 5 to 20% for new loans, or at least 20% equity in your home for refinancing to avoid Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI). The lender will assess your debts, assets, liabilities, and the value of the property to ensure you can manage the loan. For refinancing, the lender also checks that switching loans will improve your financial position, either by reducing costs or offering better terms. Using our loan expertise, we conduct a pre-assessment before presenting your situation to lenders.

  • To apply for a new home loan, you'll generally need to provide proof of identity (such as a passport or driver's license), proof of income (recent pay slips, tax returns, or bank statements), and details of your assets and liabilities (such as savings, existing loans, and credit cards).

    In the case of refinancing, in addition, you'll need documentation for your current loan. If you are seeking to release cash or equity, a property valuation will be required.

  • The home loan process includes getting a pre-approval (not necessary, but recommended), finding a suitable property, submitting a formal loan application, and completing the settlement.     With refinancing, the process typically involves assessing your current loan, comparing offers from other lenders, and completing the necessary paperwork to switch loans.

    Following settlement, we remain in touch to check that the loan is set up properly and running smoothly. We then conduct a loan review every year to ensure that your rate, terms and loan features are always market-leading for your situation.

  • A home loan pre-approval can take as a little as a few days. Once you have found a property to buy, home loan settlement typically takes around 2 to 4 weeks. Sometimes the buyer and seller agree to a longer setttement period.

    Refinancing can take between 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the complexity of your situation.

    Our mission is to keep everything on track and avoid unnecessary delays.

  • Home loan costs will include the deposit, stamp duty (depending on first home buyer scheme eligibility), legal and broker fees, and LendersMortgage Insurance, if applicable. We provide a clear breakdown of all potential costs associated with buying your first home to help you budget effectively.

    With refinancing, there may be exit fees for your current loan and establishment fees for the new loan. Likewise, there may be a brokerage fee. We will help you understand any costs in an upfront and transparent manner.
