At My Finance Agent, we believe in backing more than just good financial decisions—we’re passionate about backing the local community. That’s why we’re proud to sponsor the Bathurst Athletics Club, a grassroots club that’s gone from strength to strength this season.

We recently caught up with Geoff from Little Athletics to reflect on the incredible year they’ve had. And when we say incredible, we mean it—2024/25 saw record numbers of young athletes joining in, with over 250 participants lacing up their runners and hitting the track.

Community Spirit in Full Stride

“It’s been a really good season,” said Geoff. “We had the highest number of athletes at our zone carnival and at regionals—and now we’ve got athletes heading to state. It’s huge for a regional club.”

Like many local sporting organisations, the club faced its fair share of challenges too. A storm during the Springwood Carnival took out several team tents, including Little A’s. But thanks to insurance—and a bit of resilience—they bounced back quickly.

Sponsorship Making a Real Difference

Support from local sponsors, including My Finance Agent, has been vital to the club’s success.

“With the help of our sponsors, we’ve been able to include club shirts and hats in kids’ registration packs and purchase new equipment,” said Geoff. “It’s made the club a better place in terms of safety and having the right gear for each event.”

Other sponsors include Panthers Professionals, Forbutt's, B.A.R. Construction, Sportspower, and Bathurst Physio — demonstrating just how important local businesses are in building a strong community.

Athlete of the Month & Smiles All Round

One of the standout moments from the season was the Athlete Spotlight of the Month award, supported by Intersports. Each winner received a gift voucher to spend in-store, which turned into a real highlight for the kids—and a proud moment for their families.

“We do the presentation in front of everyone, with a big round of applause. It’s become a great incentive and puts a lot of smiles on faces,” Geoff said.

Financial Fitness for the Future

As part of our ongoing commitment to community and education, My Finance Agent is also working with the club to introduce a new Financial Fitness initiative.

“We’re excited to start conversations with families and young people around budgeting and basic financial literacy,” said Chris. “It’s something many kids don’t get at school, but it’s crucial for setting them up for life.”

With the club’s largest age group being from Tiny Tots to Under 10s, there’s a perfect opportunity to plant the seeds of smart money habits early.

Looking Ahead: Bigger, Better, and Busier

With another big season behind them and sponsors locked in for the next two years, the Bathurst Athletics Club is already gearing up for a bigger year ahead—hopefully pushing membership to 300 athletes.

But with growth comes the need for more hands on deck.

“Our biggest challenge is volunteers,” Geoff shared. “We’ve got a small crew of 6 to 8 managing over 250 kids. If we could get more parents involved, 300 members would be incredible.”

So here’s our callout to the mums and dads:

Get involved, lend a hand, and help keep this club the heart of the community. Because when we work together, we all run further.
